floral dress at sunset

DSC00240Hello friends! If you follow me on Instagram, you already saw a teaser from this shoot last week. I just couldn’t help myself! We were pulling out of our parking garage in search of a spot to shoot this look when I saw the sky and immediately thought abort abort abort! There was virtually zero sunlight left on an already gray day. J convinced me to give it a try anyway since we were already in the car, and I’m pretty glad I listened (full of good ideas, that guy!) because the sky basically exploded 10 minutes later. I love seeing the progression of the sky in each photo. The look and feel of the floral dress at sunset was such a happy accident! The backdrop was obviously pretty spectacular, but I have to give major props to the equipment and it’s operator. I don’t think J gives himself enough credit as a photographer, probably because it’s a “hobby” and he shoots most often for the blog. We collaborate on all shoots and while there’s a ton of room for creativity, there are certainly some constraints as well. I try to maintain some sense of continuity around here, while still keeping things fresh and interesting. He is always mindful of that and this blog truly wouldn’t be the same without him. Ok sorry, I’ll stop gushing now.

I’m uncomfortably giggling in a few of the photos because the man who lives in the house on the corner showed so much interest in what we were doing that even after hollering from his second story window, “Will ya take my photo too??” he still had to come outside and get a better look. He brought his dog as a buffer, haven’t we all done the old, “heyy what’s going on out there?” and taken the dog out as an excuse to be nosy? His dog lifted his leg and proceeded to pee two inches from my feet while his owner gabbed our ears off. As a dog lover/fellow doggy parent this seemed less gross and more awkwardly funny in the moment and J just kept snapping away. Speaking of dogs, I’ve wanted to find a way to include Mika in one of our shoots so badly! She is such a spazzy little diva that it would likely consist of a series of blurry action shots, but I still want to give it a try 🙂 I hope you all enjoy the rest of your week! xo

Hi! Thank you so much 🙂 I use Lightroom for all my editing and love it! I didn’t believe in editing until I started playing with all the subtle changes and realized what a huge difference they truly make! xo
