floral peplum

DSC09685Hey girls! Today I tried a new style, one that I admittedly had no interest in until now. Peplum! Since it was my first time dabbling in it, I chose a subtle version, but I think I really love it! I found this sheer floral peplum top at Forever21 for practically $0 and thought, “what the heck?” It is a much less structured version of the look which I like. I’m huge on comfort, especially when it comes to tops so it was a perfect compromise. This style of tops and dresses is often made with very heavy, form fitting material, which enhances the flattering silhouette they help to create, but not necessarily something I gravitate towards. When forced to choose between happy hour indulgences and tight tops, 99.9% of the time food and drinks win, so why bother keeping tons of form fitting tops on hand? That’s my philosophy and I’m sticking to it.

Since I mentioned my media assignment in my last post, I feel compelled to at least tell you all how it went. I clocked in a whopping 54 hours of media time…in one week! More than a full time job. That does include multitasking, and in instances where the TV is on while I’m on the internet, I counted them both as separate hours, but STILL! I wrote a reflection on my experience with the media log assignment, and while the number is massive and slightly unnerving, I came away with the attitude that awareness is key. The amount of hours I logged says something about me and my life, but it’s also just a sign of the times. We live in a society that is constantly flooded with media, so the main notion I took away from last week is to recognize that it affects me. I also want to remember that my excessive number isn’t great, but media itself isn’t all bad. It has played a huge role in spreading awareness for important causes and allows me to keep in touch with current events as well as friends and family members from across the state. I can’t pretend I’m not influenced by all the messages and images I’m exposed to everyday though, and it’s important to “unplug” now and again. I don’t want to be that girlfriend with her nose in her phone on romantic dinners or that mom one day with the toddler glued to our matching iPads, I want to be present and aware.  I’m embarrassed by how many things I’ve said I don’t have time for, yet have been essentially holding a second full time job. Yikes! If you really stop and think, what range do you think your number would be in? I’m curious! I hope you all have a great first day of October!! xo
