Yesterday I uploaded a video on my ITSF YouTube channel sharing 10 quick tips to add to your beauty routine. I wanted to mention them here as well because there were a few details I forgot to include in the video. Mainly, my favorite way to clean my brushes. Spending $20 on a bottle of soap specifically meant for your brushes always felt a little extravagant to me. However, I built a pretty high quality brush collection over the last couple of years, and I would feel preeeetty dumb if I ruined them by using a cheap product to clean them. I’ve heard horror stories of brush bristle falling out in clumps, handles breaking off, and beauty blender disasters.
I discovered the most affordable way to get a thorough clean was by making my own DIY brush cleanser. I mix hand soap and a little olive oil and sometimes I’ll add in some vinegar too. Hand soap is gentle enough that it doesn’t harm the bristles or the glue that adheres them to the handle, and the olive oil dissolves any buildup without drying them out. Coconut oil would definitely work as an alternative to add to a DIY brush cleanser, but unless it’s melted it sounds like a giant goopy mess so I’ve never tried it. The best part is I always have the ingredients on hand and never feel like I’m wasting money on unnecessary products. It’s a win-win!
I go over tons of other tips I recently started incorporating into my beauty routine in the video and break them down into three categories: hygiene, organization, and general beauty and wellness. Some of the tips were so painfully obvious, I couldn’t believe I had been neglecting them! Do you know of any that I missed? I’m always looking for ways to improve or save money!
I linked some of my favorite makeup brushes at the bottom of this post. If you are interested, I’ve been thinking about doing a whole post dedicated to my top makeup brushes as well explaining why some didn’t work for me at all. Let me know! 🙂
This was so helpful! ❤️ Thanks
