Things have been so crazy lately, it’s been a little overwhelming juggling all the travel, attending our friends’ wedding, guests staying with us and being back to work. I finally had a day off with no one to see and nothing to do, and one of the things I found myself excited to do was sit down and play with makeup. I came up with this quick summer makeup look, and was able to transform it into a sultry nighttime look in just 5 minutes. I thought it might be fun to share how I did it with you all. 🙂
One of my favorite ways to take a look from day to night is to really amp up the contouring. I’ve become obsessed with contouring lately, it’s almost scary how much you can transform your face with this technique! Cream contouring is my favorite method and these contouring sticks by Smashbox make it beyond easy. I simply draw a line along the hollows of my cheeks, the top of my forehead, and down the sides of my nose and blend them in with my fingers. (I’ve demonstrated this in videos on my YouTube channel before!) The absolute best colors to contour with are cool tones because they closely resemble a natural shadow. The Smashbox powder contour kit is the coolest I’ve found, so I love to set my cream products with it. The most beautiful way to balance out a good contour is to highlight. I was so excited to get my hands on Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in collaboration with Jaclyn Hill (an amazing YouTuber and makeup artist!) “Champagne Pop.” One swipe over my cheekbones and you can see me coming a mile away, even at night. 🙂
The next step to quickly take a look from day to night is to amp up the eyes. In the interest of saving time I used my finger to swipe on the dark shade, “Partridge” from ColourPop all over my lid. I blended it into my crease for a smokey effect. For a pop of color, I mixed Milani’s “Bella Teal” and ColourPop’s “Taco” on a thin angled brush under my lower lash line and buffed it out with a pencil brush.
The last step to take a look from day to night to define the lips. In this case, I wanted to keep them matte so as not to compete with the heavy contour/highlight and smokey eyes. My go-to matte lip right now is Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick in Pure Hollywood. It doesn’t work for all skin tones, but I find if I mix it with a pale pink shade, it’s the perfect nude for me!
And voila! Ready for a fun summer night! xo
