Almost four weeks since we welcomed baby Rhodes and we seem to be hitting our stride. And by hitting our stride I mean it’s still total chaos half the time, but at least we have a few things down. Namely, our go-to newborn products! We’ve ruled out the things that don’t work and have several newborn products on heavy rotation.
SLEEP
Newborns sleep SO much. Not necessarily when you want them to, but still there’s a lot of sleeping going on. Naturally you need comfy and convenient places for them to sleep. Enter the Snuggle Me Organic Infant lounger + washable cover (in the most gorgeous teal shade!) A soft pillow that hugs them close and keeps them snug, plus it’s portable. Rhodes lives in it during the day.
At night he’s been in the SNOO since the night we came home from the hospital, and so far it’s been wonderful. I often get asked if we think it’s worth it and I always say YES. Especially since there are so many ways to get your hands on one nowadays. It never seemed to soothe Leyton very much, but we loved the safety aspect and the app is super handy. Rhodes however, seems to really like the motion and it’s settles him back to sleep at least once each night. Which is a huge win when you’re already waking up so many times per night to feed.
To drown out the nonstop chatter and clatter thanks to his big brother, we rely on sound machines. The Hatch sound machine/night light combo is our all-time fave, especially for middle of the night feeds and diaper changes. This little portable sound machine has come in handy for outings and even rocking him around the house if I’m trying to get him to settle.
FEED
I’ve been exclusively breastfeeding and so far *knock on wood* it’s going smoothly. He doesn’t have a tongue tie or latch issue and he’s gaining an appropriate amount of weight for a newborn. I started pumping the first week to give my nips a break and try to squeak out a little extra sleep by having Jordan give him a bottle at night. We tried a couple and his favorite seems to be the Dr. Browns anti-colic bottles. He doesn’t spit up a ton, but it’s still helpful to have lots of extra burp cloths around.
For middle of the night feeds we keep him swaddled, and these super soft blankets by Copper and Pearl are some of my favorites. We also use plenty of the Aden and Anais which are not as soft, but they’re extra large and multifunctional. We use them as a burp cloth, changing pad, car seat cover, etc.
PLAY
Ok so “play” at a couple weeks old mostly consists of a few minutes of tummy time on a play mat or accompanying big brother to the park. Life of a newborn. But when we go out we love the Uppababy Mesa car seat. It clicks seamlessly into our stroller and makes life that much easier not having the transfer him into a carrier.
Day and night he’s been living in 2-way zip up pajama sets. The Little Sleepies jammies are some of our favorites because we can flip the feet in or out for sleep and tummy time. I also found this set on Amazon which is a great dupe and just as soft as the Little Sleepies brand (which are on the pricier side considering how fast newborns grow!)
Did I miss anything? If you have a newborn at home, let me know what newborn products are on repeat for you. 🙂
