Where do I even begin?? Thanksgiving weekend 2016 brought the most memorable and magical events of my entire life! One of the funnier things about this whole experience has been Jordan’s determination to surprise me. Over the years, I’ve always teased him and said I would absolutely be able to tell that he was up to something. I would even go as far as to say I would predict when the proposal was going to happen. Boy, was I wrong. (He is, of course, milking it and getting a litttttle too much satisfaction from this, if you ask me. :P) Not only was I completely clueless, but I paraded my ignorance around all day on Snapchat. I saved my “Story” from that day and everyone has gotten a good laugh. I decided since we have so much footage of the day and proposal itself, to compile it all into a video that is now live on my YouTube channel. In the meantime, I wanted to share some of the fantastic photos my brother in law took for us during and directly after the proposal. I’ll highlight some of the details along the way too. Let me set the scene…
Jord and I had an impromptu date night planned consisting of a nice dinner followed by ice skating. I had been dying to return to the pop-up outdoor skating rink in Santa Monica, we went years ago on one of our first few dates. We walked straight there after dinner where, unbeknownst to me, our family was secretly hiding out and waiting for us. (Behind the dumpsters and porta potty’s. Sorry guys! I guess that’s what happens when you lie to me for weeks! ;))
We hopped on the ice and had gone around the rink maybe twice when they made an announcement over the loud speaker. They said everyone needed to clear the rink so the zamboni could come out and resurface it, but first, there would be a special “couples skate”. I was confused when they named us and another couple! Then he pulled me out to the middle of the empty rink and proposed.
No matter how many times you imagine this moment, I don’t think you’re ever truly prepared for it. I was so shocked and overwhelmed, I couldn’t even wait for him to get up or get the ring out before I tackled him…in ice skates mind you. When he spun me around to reveal our family was there (mine flew in from San Francisco and Portland!) I completely lost it.
We spent the next hour all together hugging, rejoicing, celebrating and calling my stepmom and younger sister who couldn’t be there. Plus, they all had a lot to get me up to speed on. I didn’t even realize I was still wearing the ice skates, but Jordan had to cut me out of them (literally!) because they were tied in a crazy convoluted knot!
The proposal was more meaningful and touching than I ever could have imagined. We are still completely wrapped up in it and taking it all in– and shamelessly abusing the word “fiancé”. 🙂 We can’t thank our family and friends enough for the outpouring of love we have felt over the last few days. We are forever grateful! I am so excited to officially join our family together and spend forever with this man!
